Chocolate Malt & Banana Kids Breakfast Smoothie

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

This is a tasty kids breakfast smoothie that my two little ones love. It is a balanced breakfast for on-the-run, or for those who aren’t big eaters in the morning. It has milk, fruit and wholegrain cereal all in one package!

Kids Smoothie Finished

My son loves breakfast and eats loads, but my daughter never feels like eating much first thing in the morning. I started making this smoothie for her when she asked to try the smoothies I make for myself.

I often add some oats to mine, but the kids didn’t like the texture, so I rummaged in the cereal cupboard and found the wheat biscuits. They go completely soft in milk – perfect! I sweetened the deal with the addition of some Milo (basically Ovaltine if you’re in the UK) and honey to milk and some frozen banana chunks.

I always buy more bananas than I need so that I can chop some up to freeze for smoothies and use some (once they’re overripe) for baking banana bread or banana choc chip muffins.

Chocolate Malt and Banana Kids Breakfast Smoothie

A balanced breakfast for on-the-run, or for those who aren't big eaters in the morning. It has milk, fruit and wholegrain cereal all in one package!

Course: Breakfast
Servings: 1
Ingredients
  • 200 ml Milk
  • 1 Wheat biscuit
  • 1 Banana frozen in chunks
  • 3 tsps Milo or Ovaltine optional
  • 1 tsp honey
Instructions
  1. Place the milk and wheat biscuit into your blender and leave to soak for 5 minutes.

  2. Add the rest of the ingredients and blend until smooth.

Recipe Notes

Instead of Milo or Ovaltine, you could add 1 tsp of cocoa/cacao powder and increase the honey to 2 tsps.

You could add 2 tsps peanut butter to this smoothie for extra flavour, protein and good fats.

I like to add a handful of spinach leaves if I'm making this for myself, but this isn't a popular option with my kids so far!

For a grown-up version for breakfast on-the-run, try adding a tsp of instant coffee granules or a shot of espresso!
